The Blenheim Choral Society was formed in 1962 and is the longest-established choir in Blenheim. For some years we performed under the name 'Marlborough Singers', but in 2020 we became just Blenheim Choral.

Our choir has a mixture of ages and abilities, but we all have one thing in common: we love to sing. We meet once a week, for two hours, rehearsing for two or three shows a year, which we perform for family, friends and the Marlborough community. On occasions we also join in concerts with the Marlborough District Brass Band and/or the Marlborough Civic Orchestra.
We always welcome new members! No auditions are necessary.
We are very fortunate to have New Zealand baritone, Robert Tucker as our musical director. Robert studied at the University of Otago, before moving to Perth, Australia, where he was an Emerging Performer at the Australian Opera Studio. After living and working in the UK for five years he returned to New Zealand where he performs regularly
We are very fortunate to have New Zealand baritone, Robert Tucker as our musical director. Robert studied at the University of Otago, before moving to Perth, Australia, where he was an Emerging Performer at the Australian Opera Studio. After living and working in the UK for five years he returned to New Zealand where he performs regularly with New Zealand Opera and many other groups. He works hard to bring us up to a high standard.
We aim to present two concerts a year. The mid-year concert is a more formal work that is performed in Marlborough's ASB Theatre and is usually a more important, classical work with professional soloists. Our end of year performance is a collection of works that we have worked on throughout the year and usually has some Christmas songs

However, as our repertoire expands, so do our ambitions, and we will be bringing a new range of performances to our loyal local audience – and beyond.
Welcome. We are delighted to have you come to sing with us. This tells you a little bit about what to expect from the choir.
REHEARSALS
We practice every Tuesday from 7–9pm at the Church of Nativity, 76 Alfred Street, Blenheim (see below). Please arrive in good time so we are ready to begin at 7 o'clock.
As a concert date approaches we may be called upon to have a couple of extra rehearsals, usually on a Thursday night. You will be notified of these changes in good time.
Members are encouraged to practice at home in between rehearsals. We will often provide useful internet links to the music as a whole or to help you learn different parts.
DO YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ MUSIC?
Being able to read music is useful but not a prerequisite to joining us. If there is something you do not understand regarding the music, please don't hesitate to ask the director or another choir member for assistance, preferably during a break or after the rehearsal.
SPECIAL TALENTS
If you have special skills or talents that the choir may be able to draw on (as a soloist or instrumentalist, conductor etc) we would love to know about them. Don't be shy.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Annual fees are usually $120 per member.
