The Blenheim Choral Society was formed in 1962 and is the longest-established choir in Blenheim. For some years we performed under the name 'Marlborough Singers', but in 2020 we became just Blenheim Choral.

Our choir has a mixture of ages and abilities, but we all have one thing in common: we love to sing. We meet once a week, for two hours, rehearsing for two or three shows a year, which we perform for family, friends and the Marlborough community. On occasions we also join in concerts with the Marlborough District Brass Band and/or the Marlborough Civic Orchestra.

We always welcome new members! No auditions are necessary.

Robert studied at the University of Otago, before moving to Perth, Australia, where he was an Emerging Performer at the Australian Opera Studio. He works hard to bring us up to a high standard.

We aim to present two concerts a year, though, like so many things,  our recent programmes have been interrupted by Covid 19. The mid-year concert has usually been more informal, with anything from modern classics to Gilbert & Sullivan and our end-of-year concert, performed in Marlborough's ASB Theatre, a more important, classical work with professional soloists. However, as our repertoire expands, so do our ambitions, and we will be bringing a new range of performances to our loyal local audience – and beyond.

For New Members

Welcome!  We are delighted to have you come to sing with us. This tells you a little bit about what to expect from the choir.

REHEARSALS
We practise every Tuesday from 7–9pm at the Wesley Centre, 3 Henry St, Blenheim (see below). Please arrive in good time so we are ready to begin at 7 o'clock.

As a concert date approaches we may be called upon to have a couple of extra rehearsals, usually on a Thursday night. You will be notified of these changes in good time.

Members are encouraged to practise at home in between rehearsals. We will often provide useful internet links to the  music as a whole or to help you learn different parts.

DO YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ MUSIC?
Being able to read music is useful but not a prerequisite to joining us. If there is something you do not understand regarding the music, please don't hesitate to ask the director or another choir member for assistance, preferably during a break or after the rehearsal.

SPECIAL TALENTS
If you have special skills or talents that the choir may be able to draw on (as a soloist or instrumentalist, conductor etc) we would love to know about them. Don't be shy!

COVID

Singing is a 'high risk' activity in the presence of Covid, so all members are required to be vaccinated. Please bring your certificate to your first meeting.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
Annual fees are usually $85 per member, but have been reduced to $70 for this year because of the time lost. Please pay Margaret Hastings, our treasurer, or pay by direct credit to our SBS bank account:
